 Time for a serious hike (Almost)

Shannon, Patrick and Paul set some lofty goals of heading to Valentines then going cross country up to Jagungal and back to the round mountain car park.  Option B was in the back pocket.

We headed out all happy along Round Mountain, all happy before the mozzies got us.

We set up camp assisted by three different varieties of mosquitos just before the first creek crossing.


The next day started well, then Patrick hit the wall and we pulled up at Derschkos and pulled out Option B.

Option B - up to Jagungal. past O'Keefe's farm track, down across the Tumut, up to the round mountain ruins and out to the car.

Those clouds were ominous and very productive - we were hit with a huge hail storm


We had a great walk along Farm Ridge and then descended to the Tumut.



From the Tumut, where Paul had camped previously with Richard and Eddie, it was a long hike up and out.

The introduction Richard finally convinced me to come along on one of his trout fishing expeditions.  He was worried how I would cope with the heat and no shade.  I ended up worry how I would cope with the disorganisation. This was the intro to the Snowys which I've since become obsessed about hiking in. It started with camping at mosquito swamp night near Oglivies Creek. Things got better when I was introduced to Paton's Hut. We spent a night or two at the old Tooma River campsite We went for a long drive around the snowys ending up on the Tantangara where it joins the Murrumbidgee River.  Then we went for a couple of nights on the Tumut going past Round Mountain hut (which later burnt down) A great trip - I would come back!

 The quest to Hell Hole Learning from the previous trip, this time we drove and then walked to Paton's before nightfall. camping at Paton's Hut We had a long walk with too much gear and beer to the new Tooma camp, and then a hard slog up around and eventually..... Walk up and away from 'new Tooma' to Hell hole, which was actually a nice spot but the walk had fried us unfit buggers. Hell hole campsite, where hell hole creek joins the Tooma Knowing the hike back was too much for us to do in one hit, we hiked back and camped at 'new Tooma' 'new Tooma' campsite
